All us bloggers. Left to right Madison, James, Phillipe, Ronn, Ryan, EJ, Donald, Me and Earl. The guy sitting and grinning is Larry. Photo by Lynne, courtesy of Donald, 2004. For a closer look, go here.
Folks is folks is folks is folks. So there was this dinner, right? With all of these bloggers, right? New York, Atlanta and Oakland folks, right? Shuckin' and jivin' at BBQs on 72nd and Columbus, right? I got there late with my boyfriend, right? He dressed me and I had somewhere to go, right? Donald was outside playing like a guidepost, right? Lynn come pimpin' up while we styling, right? She all foxy and brown and nappy den, right? Me and dem go in to see the rest of them, right? A Burst of Light, Diesel Nation, ej flavors, j-notes.com, Prometheus 6, and a few admirers, right? All of them I know but one, right? Face to face it's time to show some love, right? Fried chicken and onions and tempura, right?
Ok, now I am getting tired of the "right," right?
Here's a synopsis:
Lynne of lynnedjohnson.com got greasy (just with the tempura.) She had on coated jeans (they looked like leather to me!) I like this sister because she twirls in her dharma. Ain't nobody like her. Oh Lynne, introvert: to turn inward or in upon itself: as a : to concentrate or direct upon oneself. What I would call you is selective: highly specific in activity or effect. Taste.
Ronn of a Burstoflight.com was his beatific self, reserved; talked when he wanted to talk. The brother gave me books for what I presume was a late b-day gift! Yay! Thanks, Ronn. I will fill my brain with them!

Madison (aka Madisonforpresident - dieselnation.blogs.com/hiphop/) was a kick in the pants. Lots of tech talk, that one. I want him to run for president.
Earl of Prometheus6.com was bringing the fire with the tech talk and the Matrix coat. I haven't seen his site yet, but plan to read it to ses about this gentleman's preoccupations.
James of J-notes.com (great smile, great site!) whispered to me across the table that he dug Dr. Dick! Why thank you! Now send a Negro a question or two, babyboy! And I wants my recipes. Oh and think about reviewing Amel Larrieux latest cd, Bravebird!
E.J. (Eric) of ejflavors.com is a beautiful guy equally versed in both techy language and the homeboy talk. My Southern boi. And there was techy talk going on, bunches. I would just sort nuzzle my boy and fog out while it was going on. Back to EJ: familiar, kind and alert. Like I knew he would be. See you in May!
Donald of Anzidesign.com was/is? funny and funky, snapping everybody up with his camera. He ordered a very large onion fried thingee that looked like a mini volcano. I could barely look at it. Another techy talker, which is great because he is my web designer!
Phillipe of Life Up in Harlem Heights (http://kajou.com/) strolled in a little later than me, but gave up the warm energy he always gives me, as usual. A writer and a thinker.
There were two nice guys (Ryan and another guy) that were quiet for the most part.
My beautiful spouse Larry got a little tipsy with a Texas-sized drink he ordered. I drove home.
I served the humble bunch some water. And was happy to do so.
After the dinner on 72nd Street, Earl, Lynne, Donald, Phillipe, Ronn, me and Larry talked for about an hour about ev'rything: Gay marriage, politics, music, the Oscars (Donald and Phillipe were headed to an O party: I bowed out even though he asked me weeks earlier, and Lynne refused to be kidnappped), racism, sexism, the way Larry and I met (yeah, Lynne, it makes my heart go boom boom, too) and other stuff. Made a little scene, we did. A cypher.
Then we departed. Next time: Chicago?
